The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Advances in computer communication technology and an increased awareness of how enhanced information access can lead to improved capabilities, are the driving forces behind the interest in the integration of current distributed systems and stand-alone systems. However, differences in hardware, software architectures, operating systems, host languages, and data representation have resulted in scores of stovepipe system architectures that are unable to interoperate prop cAy. This thesis contributes to the US Navy forces' information superiority in a Network Centric Warfare environment. This research develops an Extensible Markup Language (XML) based Web application framework, which supports the Web Enabled Navy (WEN) architecture infrastructure. The Web application framework easily supports connections to multiple distribute databases and XML-based presentations specifically three- dimensional (3D) simulations utilizing Extensible 3D (X3D) and Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML).
